All game modes in Dota 2
It may appear challenging to find a game in Dota 2 at first. However, the process is not as straightforward as it seems. The game features multiple modes, and it is possible to end up in the wrong place. Furthermore, there are several pre-match settings that you should be aware of. In this guide, we will discuss these aspects of Dota 2.
To begin a game, click the "play" button located in the bottom-right corner. Fr om there, you can choose one of the available modes.
- Battle Cup
- Lobby
- Training with Bots
- Ranked Game
- Unranked Game
Battle Cup
The Battle Cup is the first option you'll see. This mode offers players the chance to participate in a mini-tournament, similar to a fast-cup, with eight competing teams. We have already written a detailed article on the Battle Cup, so to avoid repetition, we recommend you read that piece.
Lobby
The lobby is primarily for practice. Here, you can gather 10 players and configure the server to meet your needs, such as practicing specific strategies. Additionally, the lobby is used in tournaments. Interestingly, you can play against bots or with them, as well as with other players, against bots, or in a mix.
As shown in the above screenshot, you can join friends who have created a lobby. To do this, sel ect "find" instead of "create."
Training with Bots
There isn't much to explain here. This mode allows for a standard training session with bots, enabling you to sharpen your skills. By setting the bot difficulty to a higher level, you can train just as effectively as in matchmaking.
Ranked Game
This mode is wh ere you'll increase your rank and earn points. You'll be prompted to choose a position to play, which is considered when selecting games. Additionally, you can choose fr om the following ranked game modes:
- All Pick
- Captain's Mode
- Random Draft
Unranked Game
In an unranked game, there are more game modes to choose from.
- All Pick: The same as ranked, but without risking your rank.
- Turbo: Everything progresses faster, including farming and gaining experience.
- Single Draft: You have a limited selection of heroes (only 3).
- Random Draft: You're given fewer than half the heroes from the entire pool, and you must choose your playable character from this selection.
- All Random: All players are assigned random heroes.
- Ability Draft: You and other players will individually select your hero's abilities. The abilities are limited to a set of heroes provided in the game.
- All Random Death Match: After each death, you respawn as a new hero. This continues until one of the thrones falls or the team's hero pool is depleted.
